We have no idea whether the cows came before us or not, but by the time we decided for a settled life with farming nearby great rivers we had already domesticated cows and they became symbols of wealth and prosperity apart from other things. The status of cows grew with our culture and the Vedas, Upanishads and Puranas mention about "gifting cows","Venerating cows" and the importance of protecting cows. The cow always remained as a symbol of serenity and "Sathvik Guna" all through history. Later cows arrived from outside and started to mix with ours and the indigenous varieties became neglected.
The"Amrithadhara Gaushala Trust"was formed in 2013 for the soul purpose of protecting our indigenous varieties along with the socio- economic system associated with farming. The Amrithadhara Gaushala Trust, which is located at Pullad near Aranmula and Ezhumattoor, in Pathanamthitta district which houses the famous pilgrimage temple of Sabarimala. The trust now is protecting about five hundred local variety cows and is busily charting out programs to preserve indigenous cows and strengthen the cow centered socio- economic - cultural system. The trust is committed to integrate the traditional ideas and practices with advanced modern technology.
Amrithadhara Gaushala Trust is putting forward a program for a holistic development of the agricultural, economic and social system of our nation and protection and promotion of indigenous cows lies at the heart of it. You can also be part of this system.
